Proper Cleaning Methods for Commercial Freezer Exteriors & Interiors

2026-10-06

Many food service establishments make mistakes when cleaning freezers—such as using the wrong cleaning agents or scrubbing too vigorously—which can scratch the interior lining, corrode the exterior, damage sealing components, and shorten the equipment's lifespan.

Today, we share professional and safe cleaning methods for both the exterior and interior that ensure thorough cleanliness without harming the unit. When cleaning the interior, you must first disconnect the power and remove all food items; use warm water mixed with a neutral detergent. Strictly avoid strong acids, strong alkalis, and steel wool pads, as these can scratch the anti-corrosion coating and cause the lining to age or crack; use a soft-bristled brush to clean residue and grease from corners and crevices, then wipe dry and allow to air out. Freezer exteriors are typically made of stainless steel; for daily maintenance, simply wipe away dust and grease with a soft, damp cloth. Gently remove stubborn stains, and never use abrasive hard objects that could damage the surface finish.

Additionally, clean the gaps in the door gaskets to remove accumulated grime and mold, and check the seal's integrity. Never spray water directly onto the unit, as this can cause malfunctions by allowing water to seep into the electrical circuits or cooling components. Proper cleaning and maintenance not only keep the freezer clean and odor-free but also ensure stable cooling performance and significantly reduce the likelihood of repairs.
