Is your commercial freezer door gasket aging and leaking cold air?

2026-09-11

When commercial freezers experience soaring power consumption, reduced cooling performance, or rapid food spoilage, the root cause is often not a compressor failure, but rather an aging door gasket that allows cold air to escape. As a critical sealing component, the gasket is prone to deformation, hardening, loss of magnetic grip, and cracking due to frequent opening/closing and exposure to dirt and moisture; these issues directly lead to cold air leakage and doubled energy costs. Here are some simple, practical methods for inspection and maintenance.

For daily checks, use the "paper test": close the door on a piece of paper, and if it can be pulled out easily, the seal is compromised and requires attention. Cleaning and maintenance should be performed weekly; wipe away dirt and water stains from the gasket crevices with a soft cloth. Avoid using strong acidic or alkaline cleaners, as oil and grease can corrode the material and accelerate aging. Minor deformation can often be corrected by applying a hot towel to restore the gasket's shape and elasticity. However, if severe aging occurs—such as cracking, hardening, or loss of magnetic suction—the gasket must be replaced with an original manufacturer part to prevent ongoing cold air leakage and increased operating losses

Regular maintenance effectively saves energy, ensures stable cooling performance, and extends the freezer's service life.

LVNI manufactures commercial freezers and other refrigeration equipment; factory-direct sales—inquiries are welcome.
